"E-Toki" is a style of preaching Buddhism, using the drawings of
the lives of Buddha and other highly achieved Buddhist monks. Highly
effective with its visual expressions, it became artistic entertainment
in Kamakura period and there were some public commentators in Muromachi
period. With the nature of easy to understand, interesting to watch,
it was very popular among the public up until Edo period.
After Meiji period of modernization, these excises depleted
so quickly and there are only few preachers who can perform "E-Toki",
now. We believe in the need of restoration of this method of preaching
Buddhism.
